The Story Behind the Song: “Mirror World”

“Mirror World” was written in 2001, and was an attempt to write about the experience of being gender dysphoric without making it obvious to everyone. Hence the rather oblique lyrics, which also reflected my conflicted feelings. It was included as the opening song on my album New Heart. It was one of the very first songs I recorded entirely on a computer rather than tape. In 2005, I had the opportunity to contribute a song to the TG [Transgender] Music Society’s second compilation CD of the works of trans artists. I chose “Mirror World”, though I added new electric guitar parts and drums. Alas, the efforts to bring the project to fruition fell apart. The later, modified version appeared on the 2023 version of New Heart.
