The Story Behind the Song: “One Last Dance”

I already had enough songs recorded to complete Postcards From the Whirlwind when this one came along in September 2021. I always like to stretch myself, so this was an exercise in writing a song based on a single bass riff. Once I had come up with all the different melodies and figured out the structure of the song, the words came quickly. The title came from an idea I had for a rock opera; it would have ended with a song called “One Last Dance (Before the End of the World).” The concept for that song would have been a slow ballad. I scrapped the opera idea, but obviously the title stayed in my memory. Though I didn’t make a video for it, I liked the song enough to include it on the album in place of another song I had already recorded.
