The Story Behind the Song: “Disconnect”

“Disconnect” has a long history. I actually had many of the musical elements already in place in the late 1990s, as well as the title. But I could never seem to find lyrics that worked, and struggled for a concept. The song languished for many years before I took it back up in late 2017 and finally hit upon the idea that it should be about obsession with social media—something that I personally struggled with at times. I recorded it with Kirk Roberts and finished up a video in early 2021. I think the quick-cut nature of the video was off-putting to some; at any rate, it has the dubious distinction of being the least popular video from the album.
