Mother Zephyr formed in the spring of 2009, when the members of the defunct Unfrozen Cavemen reunited and found a drummer, Kevin Schama.

As usual, there was much difficulty in deciding on a band name.  But finally, on day John told a story of a classmate who used to exclaim "Mother zephyr!" as a substitute for more common expletives, I knew we'd found our name.

After much rehearsal, we debuted at "Next Door" in Johnson City, TN, at a fundraiser for Mike Clark's run for Congress.  Over the years, we played sporadic gigs, and practiced regularly, where we often digressed into hilarious musical tangents.  One of our regular features was "Michael McDonald Ruins Everything," where John would McDonald-ize a song and I would sing in an approximation of M.M.'s voice.

The majority of the songs we played were covers, but we mixed in a good sprinkling of original songs, too; among them, "Pariah," "Paper Airplanes," "Your World Can't Compare," "Revolving Door," "Impatience," and "Amnesia."

In 2012, Kevin announced he had gotten a new job in Toronto and would be moving.  So we had one last "Farewell to Kevin" gig in October of that year before breaking up.
